Abstract
Vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty are established as effective treatments for patients experiencing back pain related to osteoporotic or pathologic vertebral compression fractures. This article reviews these imaging-guided procedures, addresses the clinical utility of vertebral body augmentation or reconstruction, discusses clinical experience with vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty, and details advances in the field of vertebral body reconstruction. The authors emphasize the role of the radiologist in the management of patients who present with vertebrogenic back pain.
