| Description | |
|---|---|
| Indication [when to use] | Epicondylitis or Tennis Elbow, especially sport and work induced strains. |
| Contra-indication [when NOT to use] | Osteochondrosis |
| How it works | By applying mechanical pressure to the tendons, the direction of pull at the epicondylar attachments is altered and the forces are both reduced and come from a different angle, allowing tissues to ‘rest’. The C-shaped clasp compresses the forearm musculature at its largest circumference below the elbow. It is claimed that the shape reduces the blood restricting affects of band-type circumferential devices. |
| Does it work | I find this device useful if the condition is well established and is not responding well to osteopathic methods after 3-4 sessions of treatment. Most users seem to keep their clasp after they get better and reapply as soon possible if symptoms return. 1-2 days use in those cases settles symptoms well. I don’t recommend it for tennis elbow in the acute phase or until an accurate diagnosis has been made. N.B. While I can’t recommend it particularly for medial epicondylar pain and because the clasp has a medial epycondylar pad, it also seems to help in Golfer’s Elbow, although it is not specifically designed for this. |
| THM [therapist] verdict | Reasonable value, especially effective for those who cannot, or will not rest from their work and hobbies. Acts as a good adjunct to on-going therapeutic treatment. If nothing else, it reminds the user and others that there is a problem and that they should exercise caution. |
| THM [user] verdict | Long lasting and comfy. It doesn’t get too warm, but it can irritate the hair roots by rubbing if worn too long. When applying, take care to avoid rotation of the device away from its optimal position. THM |
